5 Natural Antibiotics

An antibiotic is a drug used for the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections.  A few antibiotic also possess antiprotozoal activities. Antibiotics are not effective against viral infections such as cold, sore throats and flu. Some people tend to become resistant to antibiotics drugs. The body rarely becomes resistant to natural antibiotics. Some natural antibiotics include garlic, honey, cabbage, apple cider vinegar and turmeric.

Garlic

Garlic offers antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. It can effectively kill bacteria, parasites, yeast, fungi and molds. It can kill a wide range of bacteria unlike pharmaceutical antibiotics that kill only a narrow range of these germs. When garlic is crushed or chopped, the enzyme alliinase converts alliin into allicin. Allicin is a strong antibiotic and it is about one-fifth as strong as penicillin. Allicin is the ingredient in garlic that is responsible for its broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. Garlic promotes the ability of white blood cells to fight infections and stimulates other immune cells to fight viral and bacterial infections. It is also a cheap way to cure infections. For those who do not like the taste of garlic, there are also garlic supplements.

 Honey

HoneyAmong other uses, one of the uses of honey is as an antibiotic. It can heal infected wounds, burn wounds, bacterial infections and ulcers. The enzymes in honey produces hydrogen peroxide when diluted with body fluids which kills bacteria. The high sugar content in honey also dehydrates bacteria or dries them up. Honey helps with wounds by maintaining a moist wound condition, and its high viscosity helps provide a barrier that protects a wound from infection. A protein called defensin-1 which bees add to honey gives your immune system defense against infections. You may also combine honey with cinnamon to strengthen your white blood cells.

 

Cabbage

Cabbage has antimicrobial properties that can kill a number of diseases naturally. Fermenting cabbage juice increases its antibiotic properties. Cabbage has been found to fight H-pylori bacteria which has been found to cause ulcers. Glutamine which is found in cabbage helps to heal the mucous membrane lining of your stomach and is proved to be a better cure than antacids. Cabbage is also used to prevent bladder infection and obstructive jaundice.

 

 

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar Apple cider vinegar helps to kill bacteria. It is used for cleaning and disinfecting , treating nail fungus and  ear infections. Apple cider vinegar contains malic acid which is a substance that has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. Apple cider vinegar can also be used as a food preservatives because it inhibits bacteria like E.coli from growing and spoiling the food.

 

Turmeric

TurmericTurmeric has antifungal and antibacterial properties. Studies show that turmeric oil can treat infections when applied for about 7 days. Turmeric destroys bacteria that can cause diseases and promotes the body’s natural defense. The mixture of honey and turmeric can be used to treat bacterial and viral infections and can also be used as a general immune booster. The mixture is also known to have no side effects.
